Rising Star Award Nomination
Omar was one of six finalists nominated for the Zalando Rising Star Award 2021. The award aims to identify actors early in their careers who have the potential to become future stars.
- The Competition: He was nominated alongside his Young Royals co-star Edvin Ryding, as well as Ayaan Ahmed (Snabba Cash), Erik Enge (Tigers), Matilda Källström (Threesome), and Sofia Kappel (Pleasure).
- The Result: While Omar was a strong contender, the award was ultimately won by Edvin Ryding.

This nomination capped off a massive year for Omar, following the July 2021 premiere of Young Royals and his performances at major events like Climate Live. For the thirteenth time in a row, the Stockholm International Film Festival is awarding a young talented actor with the Zalando Rising Star Award. The goal is to acknowledge actors early on in their career and the Festival's alumni include Alicia Vikander and Gustav Lindh. This year’s winner will be announced on November 21 and will be invited to Festival de Cannes next May.

The jury for the Zalando Rising Star Award includes Head of the Jury Anna Carlson Nordqvist (previous director of Teaterförbundet Scen & Film), Lisa Rosengren Lagercrantz (Film&TV-Producenterna) and Jan Göransson (The Swedish Film Institute). This year the actors Gizem Erdogan and Danilo Bejarano also will join the jury. Gizem has become one of Sweden’s most beloved actors after her participation in the popular tv series Tunna blå linjen and Kalifat. Danilo has worked at The Royal Dramatic Theatre since 2004 and had his breakthrough in the tv series Tusenbröder.
Previous winners of the Zalando Rising Star Award are Malin Crépin (2008), Anastasios Soulis (2009), Alicia Vikander (2010), Malin Buska (2011), Nermina Lukac (2012), Adam Lundgren (2013), Julia Ragnarsson (2014), Aliette Opheim (2015), Filip Berg (2016), Gustav Lindh (2017), Alba August (2018), Celie Sparre (2019) and Lancelot Ncube (2020). Soon they will be joined by a new star representing 2021.
